The

Challenge

Chapter 1 –––––– BRING IT ON

Create a fictional interactive mobile app that encourages individuals to become more mindful of their ecological impact by limiting the amount of food they waste.

My Goal

Chapter 3 –––––– MY IDEA

Create the SAVE FOOD App

A Conceptual interactive prototype application allowing consumers to buy discounted soon-to-be perishable food items from grocery stores and unusually shaped fruits and vegetables from local farmers. This app will help consumers, grocers and farmers to become more conscious of their environmental footprint by reducing food waste and saving money.

What makes SaveFOOD unique?

It helps consumers and businesses become more conscious of food waste and environmental

footprint by:

  • Allowing retailers to reward their customers with a SaveFOOD point system. This will enable consumers to accumulate points and obtain retail money vouchers from retailers.

  • Being adaptable and further developed with other environmental factors such as CO emissions, for example

Who else is solving the same problem?

USDA Food Keeper: supplies consumers with guidelines to help them better understand the shelf life

of food and beverages

  • Too Good to Go: makes surplus restaurant food available for collection before it shuts down.

  • Leftover swap: allows consumers to share their leftovers with community members.

  • Pare up (based in NYC): connects retailers and consumers to help reduce food waste in NYC.

  • Flash Food: an app that allows shoppers to browse food items approaching their best-before date, buy them at a discount and pick them up in-store. They also deliver food boxes.

Process

Chapter 4 –––––– WHERE DO I START?

1/2 Personas and storyboards

I created persona profiles (Customer and Manager) and their respective storyboards to enable me to take a user-centered design approach, fostering empathy and engaging with the target users.

These insights help me understand user needs and behaviours and aid my decision-making and feature prioritization.

Customer

Business Manager of Retailer (i.e. IGA)

2/3 Userflows for each persona

Building my personas' user flow was crucial as it enabled me to develop an intuitive user experience by identifying and eliminating potential roadblocks. These user flows provided clarity and consistency in my app design and ensured that all necessary steps were included to maintain a cohesive experience.

Business Manager of retailer (IGA)

3/3 Created low-fi wireframes

I created low-fi wireframes to focus on functionality and information hierarchy for future support user testing and validation.

An Environmentally Conscious E-commerce Mobile App

Goal

Build a prototype for an app that has the purpose of helping consumers, grocers, and farmers become more conscious of their environmental footprint by reducing food waste and saving money.

My Contributions

  1. Created a product storyboard and light user research

  2. Created high-level user flow

  3. Created low-fi wireframes to show the whole product experience
